CHIPPEWA RIVER READINGS AND CLOSURES

Spring snowmelt run-off from the upper Chippewa River watershed is resulting in rising river levels on the Chippewa River in Eau Claire.
At 11:30 a.m. today the Chippewa River gauge at Grand Avenue read 763.1 feet. This is 9.9 feet below the downtown flood stage of
773 feet.
The river at its current level is nearing our Action stage of 764 feet. At this level, some areas of the Chippewa River Trail could
become covered by water, so for the safety of residents the following areas will be closed:

o Chippewa River Trail
 Behind UW-Eau Claire Fine Arts Building
 The boat landing behind Hobbs Ice Arena

Snowmelt run-off and warmer daytime temperatures are expected to cause the river elevation to continually increase to 766.6 feet
through next week which could result in additional trail closures. The City will continue to monitor the river closely and provide
information and updates as necessary.
