WI LAME DUCK LAW COULD BE TESTED

Wisconsin’s lame-duck law limiting some power of the attorney general could be tested by a recent Wells Fargo settlement.  The Wisconsin Department of Justice reached an eight-point-six-million dollar settlement with Wells Fargo.

The agreement is part of a 575-million dollar settlement the bank reached with all 50 states over fake customer accounts.  The attorney general would typically be allowed to allocate the money to basically any lawful purpose of choice.  However, the lame-duck law mandates the settlement funds to be placed in the general fund.
