COMMUNITY CONNECTS AFTER TRAGEDY

Lake Hallie Police say three young girls and one woman are dead after a hit-and-run. One other girl was injured. The girls were Girl Scouts who attended Halmstad Elementary School and Southview Elementary School in Chippewa Falls and were picking up trash on the highway near STH 29. The driver fled, but later surrendered to police and is identified as 21-year-old Colton Treu of Chippewa Falls.

The investigation is ongoing.  The community of Chippewa Falls is in mourning after the deaths of three girls and a woman and injuries to another girl as they were doing community service with the Girl Scouts. Hundreds of people gathered last night at Halmstad Elementary to remember the victims. Those attending sang songs and lit candles. The Girl Scout community is especially hurting because the girls killed and injured and the woman killed were with a local troop.
